Friday May 22, 2009
- Brampton Guardian
Bramalea-Gore-Malton MPP Dr. Kuldip Kular announced Friday that William Osler Health Centre (WOHC), which runs Brampton Civic Hospital, will receive close to $4 million to help improve emergency department performances.
\"Our ER strategy, along with our improvements to community services for seniors, will help to reduce the time people spend in ERs, including in our own community,\" Kular said.
The cash is part of a comprehensive ER strategy that includes:
- $55 million for a \"Pay for Results\" program, which will give 46 hospitals with challenged ERs incentives to reduce ER wait times.
- $4.9 million to help ease ambulance off-load delays by providing dedicated nurses to care for patients who arrive at ERs by ambulance. Hospitals in Peel Region will receive $416,667 dollars to hire nurses through this program. Some of these funds will benefit Brampton Civic.
- $4.1 million to have physician assistants work in ERs.
- $6.5 million for community projects.
- $7.5 million for a performance fund targeting emergency rooms facing the largest challenges. The fund provides information technology enhancements and coaching teams to improve hospital efficiency.
- $4 million to promote appropriate alternatives to the ER.
These initiatives are aimed at improving the overall performance of hospital ERs across the province.
\"In the Central West LHIN, the investments we have made to the ER strategy are helping to reduce wait times in local emergency rooms, \"said Mimi Lowi-Young, CEO of the Central West Local Health Integration Network. \"These investments are enabling hospitals to provide patients with the right care at the right place in a more quick and efficient manner.\"
