Condo report presented to public
Wednesday March 26, 2008 - Brampton Guardian

The city's response to a multi-high rise proposal for the corner of Sandalwood Parkway and Conestoga Drive will be presented to residents at the April 1 meeting of the Northwest Brampton Community Development Association (NWBCDA).
Residents are invited to hear a detailed update on the proposal and find out what the city staff's response is. A developer has applied to build six highrises and 47 townhouses on the site abutting Loafer's Lake Recreation Centre.

The resident's group represents Wards 2 and 6 and meets on the first Tuesday each month to discuss issues of local interest. The meeting will start at 7 p.m. at Loafer's Lake Recreation Centre, in the main hall.

The ward councillors will be there to answer questions.

The city's planning staff has written a report and many of the concerns from staff and other agencies such as the Region of Peel and the Toronto and Region Conservation Authority mirror those of area residents, according to Ken Bokor, NWBCDA co-chair.

The developer has made an application to build a total of 1,443 residential units on the 4 hectare (9.9 acre) site. The majority of those units-- 1,396-- would be in six highrises between 18 and 32 storeys in height. Construction would be phased-in over 12 to 15 years, with the proposed name The Residence of Heart Lake Town Centre.

In the end, the final development is proposed to have 47 three-storey townhouse units, three 18-storey highrise buildings, two 25-storey highrise buildings and one 32-storey highrise building, which would be the tallest building in Brampton.

There would also be a four-level underground parking garage with 2,498 spaces.

The total number of residents would be approximately 2,189.

Residents are concerned about traffic, the environment, and the compatibility of the development in the area. They would prefer to see only townhouses built on the land.
