MPP is against highrises

- Brampton Guardian
This letter is in response to the letter from Michel O'Neill, printed in the Feb. 25 edition of The Guardian, entitled "Proposed Apartments bad for Heart Lake."
You indicated "Linda Jeffrey needs to get on board." You must have missed my letter which appeared in The Guardian in June of last year. I believe I have already expressed my opinion on this matter and that I AM concerned this development, if approved, "would irrevocably harm our community."
Your advice, though well intentioned, is unlikely to yield the desired results. Writing or contacting the Ontario Municipal Board prior to an application being appealed is premature and won't have the impact you are hoping to achieve.
It is our understanding this application has only just been received by the City of Brampton and isn't likely to be before the City's Planning, Design, and Development Committee for their consideration for some months. This application will be a topic on numerous Planning agendas be dealt with in a public forum. My husband or I, who have been long time residents of the neighbourhood, plan to attend as many meetings as possible to express our concerns and opposition to the development.
The matter is currently before the City of Brampton (municipal) and neither the provincial government nor the federal government (through MP Ruby Dhalla) has any standing until all studies and recommendations are dealt with, and voted on, by Brampton City Council.
The residents of Heart Lake should continue to express their legitimate concerns to their Mayor, their regional councillor (who happens to be the Chair of the Planning, Design & Development Committee), and to their city councillor. Council has the tools and the ability to get Royal Cliff Homes and Lake Path Holdings to listen.
Again, thank you for sharing your concerns and if you would like to discuss this matter or if our office can be of any further assistance please do not hesitate to call.
Linda Jeffrey, MPP Brampton Centre
